Ship’s log: Tuesday, July 04, 2006Well…… Good evening and hello. JR and I are just hanging out. We thought that we would run a trip to the Quean Marry and share this with all of you, but the city of Long Beach, in their infamous wisdom would not share with the rest of us as to the state of the fireworks and insurance with them. You may or may not aware that last year the City cancelled the fireworks because of a $75,000.00 due in extra insurance to be paid by someone, the only problem was no one knew how that was. So the City lost many more thousands when everything was said and done. So like I said JR and I are hanging around the boat, enjoying fine wine and good beer. JR is not very happy though with all the fireworks going off. When the big ones hit in an hour or two he will really be unhappy. Ok, now to the diving. The last few weeks have been very nasty. The wind has come up and made life miserable for everyone. Vis has been just ok. Lots of shark sightings though, and we are all discussing which sharks they are. Along with black sea bass, yellow tail, white sea bass, and barracudas. The water has been very nice and warm at about 68 to 70 degrees. I have read on several BBS’s that divers are seeing abalones and think there is a come back. I wish this were true. It is not. Abalones reproduce by just letting their sperm and eggs go into the water. If you see a lone abalone, it is destine to die. There has to be many of them to reproduce. This last weekend alone 4 abalone shells were brought aboard the boat. This means that divers are still poaching abs and as long as they do, there will be no future for them. Enough gloom and doom. We saw many, many large female bugs with lots and lots of eggs. These are our future. Please leave them alone, but remember where they are for bug season, then see if you can catch them. Even had a runaway Moose on the boat this last weekend. I thought is was Arty, but he said he was Mike. They are identical twins, and I can tell them apart when they are together, but apart who knows. Both say the other is the “evil Twin” perhaps we will never find out, or perhaps we will. Until next time…………. Captain Tim Burke and J.R. Great Escape Charters’ Inc.
