Boy I can’t go anywhere with out someone yelling at me for not keeping this up.
It’s good to be Captain…
Anyway, a lot has happened. First off a few months back we were at PV and getting ready to go home. We were pulling the anchor at Whale Rock, when I thought I saw a diver right under us. I put both engines in full reverse and waited. There was another dive boat in the area but a long ways away. Much to amazement and relief it was a whale. Imagine that a whale at Whale Rock, who would have thunk it? And only feet away from us in about 30 feet of water.
I had forgotten about this until something similar happened last weekend at Ship Rock. Tom and one of the moose brothers were on the back deck when a “Marlin” came up behind the boat, slashed at some bait then returned to eat it. Then on the way home Tom say another Marlin about 7 miles from shore.
Last weekend we went to “Johnson’s’ Rock”, and “Black Rock”. We have been staying at that end of the island because of all the summer boat traffic. Johnson’s was very nice, with fair vis. Black Rock though rocked. Vis was around 60 feet and the water was nice and warm. Sunday we went to “Farnsworth Banks” had hit the 85’ spot, as there was a private boat over the high spot. Vis was 60 to 90’, and warm. 67 degrees at depth. There are rumors that a “Blue banded Minky Whale” was sighted. I think there are even pictures to prove it. When I get one I will post it here.
A couple of last things. I would like to thank everyone for his or her support with the ongoing situation with Sport Chalet. It this time I still do not know what the outcome will be.
Second, and much more important…Congratulations to crewmembers, Rob and Tom for both passing their tests to become 100ton Masters. YEHHHHHHH………
So in the very near future there will be two more 100ton Captains. Perhaps I will get to spend more time in the desert with JR hunting for the “Monsters”.
