Ship’s Log Saturday, September 01, 2007Well, this is the 10 year in a row that Esther and Odon have run this trip. We are at Wilson Cove Kelp Bed and divers are getting in the water. The crossing was very nice with only a few small swells. At home it was very hot as it still is. Last night it got so cold we had to put jackets on to go outside. That is all over it is now about 85 degrees and only 08:30. Fist dive one black sea bass was spotted along with a couple of very inquisitive sea lions. This is also Captain Rob’s first trip out with his new 100 ton license. Second dive we are at Black Sea Bass kelp bed. Hopefully they are home. Only saw a couple of them, but they are still here. Third dive was at East End Reef. Very nice with great vis and 4 Sea Bass seen. Then over the outside of the inside boilers. Very nice again and 1 black sea bass seen. Now we are at the bluffs in Pyramid Cove with a nice cool breeze and Rob is serving dinner. It is 6:15 on Saturday night. A night dive will be up in a couple of hours. The night passed without incident, and cooled off nicely. Day two… The day is starting out very nice. A light wind and calm seas. First dive at the arch. I missed my target, and the divers had to swim 20’ to get to it. I have on a couple of occasions hit the top of the arch, with the anchor hanging over it. Not today, but everyone so far has found the arch. Moved around the corner for a dive at Window Pane. Many divers felt this was to best dive so far. It had great vis, with very little or no current. It is though getting very hot, with little wind. Moved back into Pyramid Cove on the inside East side. Vis was very bad, so back to the other side again. This time we stopped Skull Point. The water looks very nice. Waiting for the divers to come back and give a report. They had a very relaxed time here. Now over to Twin Cave reef. Stayed there for the night and several divers made both the evening dive and the night dive. All that did enjoyed it. Over to Little Farnsworth for the first dive of the last day. Very good vis, no current, and several black sea bass spotted. Then over to Tarquat springs and again black sea bass spotted. Several divers these were to first they had seen. Last dive of the day was at a spot the Dave Melson had taken me to years ago and I did not think it was that good. But the divers really liked it. It is near Little Gibraltar. I had heard about this spot from others but thought it was a lot closer to the rock. After a great BBQ we head home. Until next time…………………………… Captain Tim Burke
