Ship's log 05/12/02

Once again I have lapsed in writing this log. Seams that so much is going on, and time just goes away. First it is Monday, and then the month is gone.
As many of you know, I have been having a problem with 22nd Street Landing for several years. And for that same amount of time I have been looking for a new landing to go to. Some of you have were at 22nd Street when the "Friendly" management started yelling at customers and I had to confront the manager while he yelled at and threatened me. Another time a customer left her ID at home and once again the "Friendly" management called the Port Police on me and no less than 6 cars showed up and I had to square off with them I stopped short of my being arrested, and the customer had to go home to get her ID.
All of you that have been to the boat in the last 6 months have seen the continuing decline of the docks. Have you noticed that the "Fishing Boat" docks are in good shape though. All of this has now changed. Effective immediately, the "Great Escape" will now be located at Queen's Wharf, or Long Beach Sport Fishing. Berth 55, on Pico Ave. off of the 710 Freeway. (Click on the pop up to get a very good map.) I spent over a year looking for a good place to relocate too. I hope this is it.
Well enough of that. So far this year we have spent a lot of time at Catalina. The weather and ocean have been very uncooperative. Something is keeping the swells at a 4 sec. Interval with is terrible. If the swells increase just a little, it makes it almost impossible to get to the outer islands. San Clemente has also been shut down by the Navy a couple of times for maneuvers or live fire.
This weekend was like last weekend. Some divers may not like this or think that we somehow make out on this but we really are looking out for you. The boat and the crew can just about make any crossing, but you will not enjoy it, and usually the islands will not be good to dive at when the conditions are like this. After I use all means at my disposal, and it looks like the weather will be really bad, we have been staying at the dock, so you can get a good nights rest, then leave in the morning and go to Catalina. If we leave at 01:00 or 02:00 am, we head out, then get beat up, nobody sleeps and we still end up at Catalina. Every shop that I know of gives some sort of refund, and I do not make any more money, usually less as I have already had to spend the money for the extra crew that goes on the over night trips. This is only for your comfort.
Hopefully the weather will break soon and I will have some good reports for you.
Almost forgot.
Happy Mother's Day!

Captain Tim
