Ship's log: Wednesday, September 1, 2004

I was on the boat last weekend when a lady came up to me and asked if I ever got bored working on the boat? I told her yes sometimes. She then asked then why stay? I have thought a lot about this past week. Yesterday though, the answer was absolutely clear.
I was at Albertson's and was waiting it line to pay for my groceries and was watching the check out person. She absolutely hated her job. She had an attitude that you could almost feel it was so bad. So often I go to different stores and see that same problem. Roger Hess (whom I purchased the GE from) asked me one day if I ever regretted buying the boat from him. Again I thought about it, and told him no. No matter how bad it gets on the GE, it is still a 1000% better than ever working for Kraft Foods again.
The biggest single nicety of the GE is you. The divers. My job is try and make you forget he crap that you have had to put with all, and find the best places to dive, along with the best food I can provide. These are my goals all the time. As my ex partner used to say, "To exceed your expectations".
The weekends are the easiest time for running the boat. You never, or rarely see the behind the seen part of running the boat. That being the repairs, the cleaning, menu planning, food purchasing, fuel purchasing, ect. I just got done (I think) planning the menu and ordering the food for this weekend. It only has taken me two days, and I still will go over the list 2 or 3 more times to make sure I did not forget something. Once and awhile we do, but then I have Mikey to blame.
With the tangent that I just went off on, the bottom line to you is "Thank you, Thank you very much". Without your continuing support, I would not be in business. No business can survive on no repeat customers.
Went to San Clemente last weekend, and had flat calm crossing. Pulled up to "Window Pane" but there was already someone there. Went over to the "Arch" and divers had a very good dive. Then over to "East End Reef" this had got to be just about the best dive on the Island. You go over valleys that drop off to 100+ and then back to the top of the reefs that are in 35 to 50'. There are caves and swim threws everywhere, and Black Sea Bass frequents here. Alas we did not see any here this trip. Then over to the wreck of the "Little Flower". While there is hardly worth calling it a wreck any more as there is so little left. But, a resident BSB is here quite often and Leon had to opportunity to see it. There was a little current to start with, but it soon ended and was absolutely beautiful.
Had a very nice trip home, but with a little excitement. As we neared the break wall a customer came up and said he saw a boat waving to us with the engine hatches up. We turned back to see what was going on. They all ok, but had been drifting for hours. I called CG, but no answer, strange. Then I called Cabrillo Bay Watch and reported it to them. They said it a 24' Yellow boat. I said yes, and they replied that they new about the boat and help was on the way. It was a little lumpy, but we stood by until the rescue boat showed up. Luckily for some of the passengers it was only about 20 minutes.
There is always something going on.
Until next time………….
