Ship's log: Monday, December 13, 2004What an interesting weekend. Friday night everyone kept asking if we were going to make it to San Clemente. Everyone said the swell models were terrible. As I have always said, and will continue to say. The swell models don't mean shit. They are just predictions and not very good ones. I tell everyone I don't know what it's like we'll find out in a couple of hours. This was exactly the case. We headed out at 1am and about 3 miles out I turned the boat over to Captain Kim. The crossing was like a lake. I got up at 6am to find the first spot to dive. It was so calm I pulled in right next to the boiler at the East End of SC. Dropped the hook in 30 feet and backed down. The water was very clear. Sorry the Black Seas Basses have gone home for Xmas, but the vis was around 100'. Then off to "Window Pane" and again great vis. Last dive was at "Mosquito Cove" in hopes of the elusive legal bug at SC. I have come to the conclusion that the navy has been doing experiments to keep the bugs 1/16" short. It has been that way for at least 30 years. Then off home. Again a great smooth crossing. Kim is finally learning how to miss the big swells. Saturday morning off to Catalina. Again a nice crossing. We had 4 classes, so Isthmus was the first choice. Vis was great, with just a little current. Lots o' bugs caught. Classes had a good time for the first dive, but the current picked up for the second, but all did well. Off to "Lion's Head" for the third dive. Very nice with no current. I am taking Joy (my Mother and the one who answers the phone) on a cruise to Jamaica, Cayman, and Cozumel. If anyone knows of a good place for us to go to, or something special to see please email me. We leave this Friday. Everyone have a great Christmas, eat and drink tooooo much and have a great time. Until next time…………. Captain Tim Burke Great Escape Charters
