Ship’s log: Sunday, March 27, 2005First off, HAPPY EASTER!! Don’t you dare run over the easter bunny, and never, never eat too much candy today. We headed out Saturday morning at 01:00. The reports were not good, and I fully expected to end up at Catalina. First Mate Kim took over the helm after we left the breakwater and I was half way convinced that we would get at least to Cat. I woke several times during the night thinking we were on the lee of Cat. I finally looked at my clock and it was 4:45. Very good, not too far from San Clemente. I got up at 06:00 and took the helm. There were two other diver boats at East End Reef, so I opted for “Window Pane”. Great chose. All the divers enjoyed at and one of the many regular customers, Gene, told me he could read “Great Escape” from 90’. Now that is good vis. The next two dives were at “Little Flower”. This is named for the wreck of the “Little Flower”, and although there is very little left a nice resident Black Sea Bass makes it’s home here. This day though, it was not here. Little Flower is a great dive. It has very good terrain in shallow water and a trench out in about 40’ that goes down to over 130’. It is neat just to sit on the edge and see what goes by. A couple of things happened on this trip that did surprise me. First this is the first time that I have made this trip for SC, and many of the divers told me it was their third try of the year with the GE. I am flattered that all of you kept coming back, and want to take this opportunity to say, “Thank you, thank you very much” and this is from the entire crew. Also a new diver to the GE told how much she liked the trip and I was delighted to enjoy a fine “Cohiba” cigar tonight. My cigar of chose is “El Ray Del Mundo”, but a fine Cuban cigar is always appreciated. One last topic of not so good news. As many of you know, the “Conception” was stolen the other night, and finally run aground, by some son of a bitch. As you read this, Glen is trying to save his boat. I have called him and left a message of support. They will be trying to get the boat back in the water tonight as high tides are in their favor. Hopefully tomorrow will bring good news. Until next time…………. Captain Tim Burke Great Escape Charters
